BETWEEN MATCHA AND THE LACK OF QUALITY OPTIONS IN IRELAND.

My first real encounter with matcha was when the cafe I had been ordering turmeric lattes from, were out of them that day, so I went for the next healthy alternative I could find – matcha. My curiosity peaked!

But as I dove deeper into the matcha scene around Dublin, I kept hitting the same wall – too much milk, or cups of matcha that had bitter clumps in them.

It seemed impossible to find a matcha that lived up to my expectations in Dublin, or even across Ireland.

This led me to realize: a lot of people might not enjoy matcha because

they haven't experienced the real deal.

During some of my travels over the last 3 years to LA, London, and Mexico, I was so intrigued to visit "matcha-only" cafes in these countries.

I couldn't shake the feeling that Ireland was missing out. After all, with the growing demand for healthier alternatives to coffee, it made sense.

It became clear that if I wanted matcha done right,

I had to do it myself

And so, at the beginning of this year, I made the bold decision to dive headfirst into the world of matcha. I started experimenting at home, making different matcha drink recipes, and learning all the in’s and out’s of one of the most antioxidant-rich plants out there.

Cue me, armed with a whisk and a passport, I then set off for the birthplace of matcha: Japan, to bring the highest quality matcha I could find to Ireland.

During my trip to Japan, I delved deep into the heart of matcha country – Uji and Wazuka. I visited through tea farms, toured factories, and even shared a cuppa with fifth-generation tea farmers. It was a crash course in matcha and I emerged with a newfound appreciation for this antioxidant-rich drink.

finally, i struck gold.

or should i say, green.

After countless cups of tea and more than a few lost-in-translation moments, I struck gold – or should I say, green. With the help of some incredible tea farmers and a knack for sniffing out quality, I found the perfect organic ceremonial grade matcha from a farmer in Uji who I have now partnered up with.
So here I am now, with my very own pop-up shop in the heart of Dublin.

It's more than just a place to grab a drink. It's a community, a modern space for matcha lovers and newcomers alike & We're here to shake up the matcha scene in Ireland.
